Case Studies

A picture is worth a thousand words, and maybe more. This is why we have developed several real world case studies to aid in understanding what we can do at Butler-MacDonald. For convenience they have been arranged by relevant heading.

Click on the links below for a large and growing number of real world case studies.

MIXED POLYMER SEPARATIONSeparation of two or more polymers to provide one or potentially more valued polymers at a known purity. Such as separating PVC from ABS, Acetal & PP from HIPS, ABS from HIPS, or, PP from PE - to name a very few. Color does not usually matter.

Case Study 2 Silo Contamination: Polymers Get Recovered
Case Study 3 Consumer Returns: Polymer Recovered
Case Study 4 Floor Sweeps & Waste: A Usable Plastic Resource
Case Study 5 Window Profiles & Lineals: Metal Is Not An Issue
Case Study 6 Contaminated Resins, Raw Material Bargains
Case Study 10 DVD’s & CD’s Provide Raw Materials
Case Study 12 Agricultural Waste Problem Equals HIPS Resource
Case Study 13 Metal In Parts & Assemblies - Plastic Can Be Recovered
Case Study 4151 A Case of Mistaken Identity, PVC Is Not PC
Case Study 6135 Not All Contamination Is Visually Apparent
Case Study 6193 Ground Spill Scrap: Usable Plastic Recovered
Case Study 6217 Color Separation By Itself; Sometimes It Doesn’t Work

PLASTIC COLOR SEPARATION • Contaminant removal based upon relative color values delivering polymers free of the unwanted colors, such as removing a black concentrate from a natural plastic. Polymer may or may not be compatible or of the same type.

Case Study 6193 Ground Spill Scrap: Usable Plastic Recovered
Case Study 6217 Color Separation By Itself; Sometimes It Doesn’t Work

METAL SEPARATION • From simple metal removals to highly stringent metal separations where a guarantee is required to have the product metal-free without substantial losses that would otherwise occur by using simple metal detection devices. It does not matter whether the metal is magnetic or not.

Case Study 3 Consumer Returns: Polymer Recovered
Case Study 4 Floor Sweeps & Waste: A Usable Plastic Resource
Case Study 5 Window Profiles & Lineals: Metal Is Not An Issue
Case Study 13 Metal In Parts & Assemblies - Plastic Can Be Recovered
Case Study 5228 Metal Removal From Metal Detector Rejects

CONTAMINANT REMOVAL • Contaminants such as rocks, dirt, unwanted polymers, metal and debris is removed.

PLASTIC PART & ASSEMBLY RECOVERY • Taking large forms or parts with or without metal and/or incompatible polymers and shred, granulate and recover clean contaminant free plastic to a known purity level suitable for manufacturing, sale or reuse.
